Gender Open Housing
Gender Open Housing provides students the opportunity to apply for University housing spaces without regard to their gender. This housing option is focused on creating an inclusive environment where students can live together regardless of sex, gender identity, and/or gender expression.
Gender Open Housing aims to be an option for students who would feel more comfortable living with someone outside of their designated sex and/or someone with a similar gender identity.

Are there extra costs for Gender Open Housing?
No. The cost of housing is based on the residence hall and room type.
Where is Gender Open Housing?
- 17th Ave: Double Rooms
- Comstock Hall: Single & Double Rooms
- Middlebrook Hall: Double Rooms
- Pioneer Hall: Double Rooms
- Yudof Hall: 2-Person 2-Bedroom Suites, 2-Person 2-Bedroom Apartments
- Radius: 2-Person 2-Bedroom Apartments
- Wilkins: 2-Person 1-Bedroom Apartment
All students within Gender Open Housing will have access to single-user bathrooms.
In the upcoming years, other Gender Open Housing spaces will be made available based on the feedback of students and the renovation of our facilities.
What if I want to live in a different hall that is not available for Gender Open Housing?
Students who select Gender Open Housing on their housing application and change their mind can select a new space by contacting veniceetc.com.

Roommates in Gender Open Housing
博狗投注网站Students interested in living in Gender Open Housing are encouraged to self-select roommates who also wish to live in Gender Open Housing. However, if you do not specify a roommate, Housing & Residential Life will pair you with a roommate.
If you would like to select your own roommate but are not aware of anyone wanting to live in a Gender Open Housing space, a consultation with our campus , , or Housing & Residential Life staff can assist you with this process.
What happens if my roommate cancels their contract?
If your roommate cancels their contract, you will have the opportunity to choose a new roommate. If you do not know of a potential new roommate, housing will assign a roommate who also selected Gender Open Housing on their application. If you are no longer interested in Gender Open Housing, please contact Housing & Residential Life at 612-624-2994 or veniceetc.com to be moved to a non-Gender Open Housing space.
What if I become uncomfortable living with my assignment roommate(s)?
To help students establish an effective and successful partnership with their roommate(s), we encourage residents to fill out a Roommate Success Plan with their Community Advisor. Our initial strategy is to have roommates discuss issues that create conflict or discomfort. Housing & Residential Life staff members are available to assist with mediating roommate conflicts.
Will any student be assigned to Gender Open Housing without knowing?
No. Gender Open Housing assignments will only be given to residents who specifically request those spaces.
Signing Up for Gender Open Housing
New prospective students interested in Gender Open Housing should select "Contact Me" in the gender section of their housing application. A member of the Housing & Residential Life team will contact you to learn more about your housing needs and answer questions you have regarding Gender Open Housing as a new student.
Students currently living in University Housing who are interested in living in a Gender Open Housing for the following academic year can reserve a space during the Room Sign Up process.
